Lion's Head

The 1-2 hour circular trek to the top of Lion's Head starts at Signal Hill and is well worth the effort. The majority of the ascent is a steady uphill stroll and for those that do continue right to the top, they are rewarded with stunning 360 degree views of Cape Town, the beautiful Atlantic coastline and Robben Island. The final few hundred metres do require a little more effort as it gets quite steep, with some sections fitted with ladders and handrails to assist you. As well as a popular spot for walks and hiking, it’s also a popular spot for bird-watchers. Amongst the common resident species are, Cape White Eye, Collared Sunbird and Red wing Starling.

The area is rich in Flora & Fauna and there are a large number of different Proteas and other Fynbos species, flowering throughout the different seasons; making this an enjoyable and interesting walk at any time of the year.

A degree of fitness and mobility is required to if you do wish to reach the summit but generally the ascent is made at a nice leisurely pace that allows us to enjoy our surroundings to the maximum.
