Silvermine Nature Reserve
The reserve covers the section of the Cape Peninsula mountain range from the Kalk Bay Mountains through to Constantiaberg. The area is an important conservation area for the indigenous Fynbos vegetation. Montane Cone-Bush and Silver Trees are abundant in the reserve.
As well as a popular reserve for walks and hiking, Silvermine is also a popular spot for bird-watching. Amongst the common resident species are the, Cape Sugar Bird, Orange Breasted Sunbird and Cape Francolin.
The Silvermine's hiking trail allows one to see some of the world’s most spectacular coastal and mountain scenery which is rich with a variety of flora as well as bird and small animal life. There are a large number of different Proteas and other Fynbos species, flowering throughout the different seasons; making this an enjoyable and interesting walk at any time of the year.
Silvermine Nature Reserve also has a number of sandstone cave systems and rock climbing routes.
